Monkey Sadness

Monkey Sadness

By Craig Wilson

The smoke clears, and I see I am in a tiny café.

As always, I do not remember coming here at all.

I am sitting at a table nursing a little hazelnut latte.

My pal Jack appears, and he’s got a monkey friend.

Jack sits at the same table as me. He looks pretty sad.

Jack says his monkey pal has depression. Poor, tiny chap.

My heart breaks. I want to see a smile from the monkey.

Nothing I say or do improve the monkey's sour mood.

My phone’s alarm goes off, and I’m pulled from the dream.

The End

The above story is a loose adaptation of a dream I had. If there is anything you would like to ask, feel free to leave a comment, and thank you for reading.
