A Retro Break

A Retro Break

By Craig Wilson

The smoke clears and I realise that I am riding the bus.

However, I can’t remember getting on a bus this morning.

I have this feeling that I am currently travelling to work.

Conversely, the bus driver decides to stop at short notice.

We find ourselves parking at a retro game convention.

The bus driver advises everyone to get off the bus.

We buy some stuff, and the driver buys Sonic CD.

I briefly play Samba De Amigo, but my back hurts.

My phone’s alarm goes off and I leave the dream.

Demonic Cake

Demonic Cake

By Craig Wilson

The smoke clears and I find myself sitting on the bus.

However, I look in the mirror and I am not myself.

I see that I am actually Jon Peterson – my character.

Jon’s father is sitting not too far from me on the bus.

I am reminded that we have to do some errands.

Some random woman leaves her box on the bus.

I open the box and eat some of the cake inside.

I explode, and the Red-Eyed Demon takes over.

The Red-Eyed Demon then goes after the woman.

Samantha goes after the woman, too, and fails.

My alarm goes off and pulls me out the dream.

The Haunted Grove

The Haunted Grove

By Craig Wilson

The smoke clears and I find myself in the bus station.

I sort of have an idea as to why I am in the bus station.

So, I hop on the nearest bus, and I hope to get to work.

As the bus pulls out of the station, I get a funny feeling.

When I arrive at my destination, I realise that I am lost.

I find myself in an old grove surrounded by dead trees.

Everywhere I walk I hear the sounds of dark whispers.

My heart races in my chest and I soon start running.

Thankfully, my phone’s alarm goes off and I am saved.

The End

Reality Trip

Reality Trip

By Craig Wilson

The smoke clears and I see I am in the local bus station.

I don’t remember going to the bus station, though.

Also, I don’t remember leaving the house, either.

The bus arrives at the bay and the double doors open.

Slowly, I rise from my seat and I board the small bus.

Once the bus starts moving, something feels different.

I look out the windows and I see a magical void instead.

The bus I am riding on can take me to different realities.

I wait for the bus to circle back, and I leave this dream.

The End

The Wrong Bus

The Wrong Bus

By Craig Wilson

It’s early in the morning and I need to get to a new job.

Carefully, I face the dark streets despite the danger.

I make my way to the bus station, but it is still dark.

I am half-asleep and I am desperate to get to work.

Without thinking, I just hop on some random bus.

However, as the bus goes, I realise something’s off.

I quickly realise this bus is headed the wrong way.

I get off a random stop and have to use another bus.

Of course, I’m late to work, but the dream stops.

The End

Next Stop the Future

Next Stop the Future

By Craig Wilson

I’m riding on the bus, eager to get to town.

I’m late for a really important job interview.

A lady presses the button and I follow her.

When we both get off, something is wrong.

The entire world has a cyberpunk feel to it.

We realise we’ve wound up in the future.

I randomly bump into someone that I know.

I am informed a friend is ill and hospitalised.

Naturally, I am startled and saddened by the news.

The lady and I wonder what caused this future.

However, my phone’s alarm pulls me out the dream.

The Underground Bus Station

The Underground Bus Station

By Craig Wilson

My brother and I are walking around the town centre.

The both of us have just left a trendy new bar in town.

We make our way to the new underground bus station.

However, once inside, we can see just how scary it is.

The first warning sign is we're the only ones in here.

My heart is pounding. I expect something to jump out.

I feel like we wandered on the set of a horror movie.

There’s a chill in the air that gets us both on edge.

Hastily, my brother and I head to where our bus is.

Luckily, we already have the bus waiting for us.

We get on the bus and we find a seat at the back.

While the bus departs, we see the shadows moving.

An Artistic Blunder

An Artistic Blunder

By Craig Wilson

I’m on the bus to school, on this rainy day.

The sound of hooting kids booms loudly.

When I arrive at school, something hits me.

I slap my own forehead hard and I grunt.

I’ve forgotten my art supplies back at home.

Today is the day I have to turn in my homework.

I get off the bus and I quickly run back home.

And I somehow reappear back on the bus again.

Also, I have my art equipment and finished work.

The Skittles Smuggling

The Skittles Smuggling

By Craig Wilson

It’s early in the day, and I’m sitting in the bus station.

As per usual, I’m waiting for my bus to arrive.

The usual passengers are all waiting in the line.

The bus arrives and I walk on with the others.

However, the driver refuses to go anywhere.

The driver finds a smuggled bag of skittles.

I exchange confused looks with the others.

The driver takes turns interrogating us all.

Thankfully, my phone returns me to reality.

A Bizarre Bus Ride

A Bizarre Bus Ride

By Craig Wilson

I’m on a bus, which is filled with numerous Asian tourists.

Amazingly enough, the tour bus is bigger on the inside.

In addition, there are numerous market stalls in the bus.

I look around, and I see many people buying souvenirs.

As I gaze around, I wonder how this is even possible.

After a short while, we soon arrive at our destination.

We finally arrive at what looks like a tourist rest area.

I rush off the bus and I look for the nearest restroom.

Once I hop right into a restroom stall, the dream ends.

Otaku Bus

Otaku Bus

By Craig Wilson

Somehow, I am on a huge bus filled with numerous Otakus.

Many of them wear shirts with anime characters on them.

It feels like that I have only just leaped into this situation.

My ears pick up discussions, like on who the best girl is.

There’s a film showing on the bus, which stars Jane Levy.

The film looks like a live-action adaptation of an anime.

Jane Levy is dressed in a Japanese sailor school uniform.

I get really into it – yet, the bus suddenly slows down.

Everyone gets excited, because we’ve finally arrived.

We all get up to get off, and when I do, the dream ends.

Stuck on the Bus

Stuck on the Bus

By Craig Wilson

I’m on the bus, which is heading for the Town Centre.

It’s dark out and there aren’t many people out.

I stare out the window and nearly fall asleep.

During the journey, I notice something wrong.

The bus, for whatever reason, does not stop.

I press the button again and again, but nothing.

I call out to the driver, but they do not hear me.

I get up and I run straight to the emergency exit.

I try the emergency door, but it doesn’t budge.

Frantically, I bang on the door – calling for help.

Thankfully, my phone’s alarm sings its tune.

The Psychedelic Nightmare

The Psychedelic Nightmare

By Craig Wilson

I find myself riding the last bus, with several strangers.

It’s late at night and I’m desperate to get back home.

The bus rocks back and forth with such a violent force.

We’re blinded by psychedelic colours from outside.

We shriek in panic when monsters claw their way inside.

I bang on the emergency exit, but it just won’t budge.

The rest is a blank, and I somehow appear in my room...

The End

Holiday Departure

Holiday Departure

By Craig Wilson

My folks and I ready to embark on a new adventure.
We have packed our suitcases and are ready to go.
Somehow, the minibus is actually inside our house.
Yet, I don’t know how the minibus suddenly appeared.
My folks get on the minibus and tell me that they’re ready.
However, I delay them by saying I need to relieve myself.
I head for the bathroom, but I manage to exit the dream.

The End

One Hell of a Trip

One Hell of a Trip

By Craig Wilson

A friend and I are hanging out, and are on a trip.
We’re both travelling on a coach with strangers.
However, I don’t have a clue where we’re heading.
Somehow, we have a montage of the things we do.
We watch  The Flintstones, AVGN and a documentary.
In due course, we arrive at a new and awesome arcade.
I play on an old arcade game, before my alarm goes off.

The End

Abandoned

Abandoned

By Craig Wilson

I look around, and see I’m in an industrialised area.
The last thing I remember was a vague bus ride.
Also, this part of town really looks alien to me.
Suddenly, loud sobbing steals my attention.
I follow the sounds of crying down a street.
I see someone I know is having a breakdown.
But I do not go over there and console them.
Sadly, I just leave him there, and exit this dream.

The End

Déjà Vu Station

Déjà Vu Station

By Craig Wilson

I’m fighting the urge to slumber, as the bus pulls into the station.
However, when I get off the bus, I suddenly appear on a bench.
I get a tingling sensation of déjà vu – while waiting for my bus.
I try to converse with some random people, but they ignore me.
Again, I fight the urge to slumber, while waiting for the bus.
Before the exact same bus arrives, I suddenly leave this dream...

Riding the Bus Dream

[This was previously published on the Tumblr blog Pessimist Press]:

Riding the Bus Dream

By Doctor Pessimist

A disclaimer: This dream isn’t ripping off a certain 80's slasher flick.

When I was in high school, I used to have this recurring nightmare. It starts off like a typical Monday morning: I leave my house and reluctantly board the school bus. I sit myself at the back of the bus – putting up with the deadheads, and the hooting of the imbeciles.
However, in my nightmare, the bus driver would pass the school.
The idiots would at first cheer, but I, of course, notice something is wrong.
I look out the window, and I notice the colour draining from the world.
Soon, the bus comes to a halt and the bus driver screams.
The doors open – a mysterious figure steps on.
The figure zaps the bus driver – causing him to cry uncontrollably.
When the figure gets closer, he comes into focus; it’s my future self, Doctor Pessimist.
However, this doppelganger, calling him Doctor Pessimist, is depressing the students while he makes his way towards me. When he does reach me, he hits me with a weird energy beam. The doppelganger disappears – I look at my reflection, and see I have become Doctor Pessimist. And yet, I smile after seeing my enemies suffer.
After this nightmare, I’d wake up in a cold sweat.
This is one nightmare my parents never found out about. In fact, the only person I have told in my life is Manic Minion. And he sees it as some kind of premonition for my mutation.
The person who I used to be is long gone, and Doctor Pessimist shall forever live on.

Delayed

Delayed

By Craig Wilson

I’m sitting on a metal bench in the bus station.
I’ve finished my shift and want to head home.
Unfortunately, my bus has been delayed.
I stare at the bay door, and the bus arrives.
When I board the bus, I enter another dream....

The End

Late to Work

Late to Work

By Craig Wilson

I wake up and quickly realise I’m somehow late for work.
After a long bus journey, I manage to make it to work.
The Heavens have opened up and rain is pouring down.
I notice that my workplace is being renovated.
I search some rubble and discover my scrubber-dryer
As I get to work, my alarm pulls me out of the dream.

The End
